The Puerto Rican strain of salsa, the Afro-Caribbean dance music that exploded worldwide in the 1960s and 70s through the Fania label and the island's vast New York diaspora. Blending son montuno, bomba, jazz, and R&B, it produced era-defining soneros and orchestras that made salsa the sound of Puerto Rican pride.
