El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is the most enduring institution in salsa, founded in 1962 by pianist Rafael Ithier and nicknamed La Universidad de la Salsa for the many stars it launched. For more than six decades its polished horn arrangements, twin vocalists, and signature dance steps have made it the Ambassadors of Our Music. Its songs are woven into the fabric of Puerto Rican celebration.
