About Afro-Funk and Soul

Togolese funk and soul, and the fusions that grew out of it. Roger Damawuzan and Itadi K. Bonney cut hard, horn-driven records in Lomé in the 1970s and early 1980s that went largely unheard abroad until reissue labels found them. Vaudou Game, Dogo du Togo and Zangbeto have since built on that lineage, often routing vodun scales and rhythms through it deliberately.
