Itadi K. Bonney recorded a run of politically pointed funk and soul in Lomé in the early 1980s, at a time when saying much of anything directly carried a cost. His 1983 album Hustle pairs hard rhythm guitar with lyrics about work, money and power. He later moved toward acoustic and roots material. Hot Casa reissued the early records and brought them to listeners who had never had access to them.
