Roger Damawuzan cut Wait for Me in 1972 with Les As du Bénin and earned a lasting comparison to James Brown for the scream he built it on. He spent decades working in Lomé with little international attention until Hot Casa reissued the single and collectors found him. Since then he has recorded new albums in his seventies and toured Europe. He sings across Mina, Ewé and English.
