About Persian Pop
Popular song in Persian, which Vigen effectively started in 1954 by singing with a guitar, and which Googoosh carried to a scale no Iranian artist had reached before. The 1979 revolution cut it in two: women were barred from singing solo in public, many artists left for Los Angeles, and the diaspora industry in Tehrangeles kept the music alive on cassette. A separate domestic pop scene grew back inside Iran from the 1990s.
