Jaque Mate

About Jaque Mate

Jaque Mate is one of the bands that led Costa Rica's chiqui-chiqui wave of the 1980s, a dance-floor mix of merengue, cumbia and other Latin rhythms. Their singles El Pipiribao and Canchis Canchis came out in 1985, and the 1986 CBS album El Cangrejo, also released in Venezuela, carried the title track that became one of the genre's classics.
