Post-independence Croatian pop spans Gibonni's soulful Dalmatian songwriting, Severina's three decades of superstardom, the cro-dance eurodance wave of the 1990s, and the global cello crossover of 2Cellos. It absorbed the festival melodics of zabavna glazba and updated them with modern production, keeping Croatian-language pop dominant on domestic charts and across the wider region. Its groove roots reach back to Dino Dvornik's late 1980s Split funk records.
