Doris Dragović is Split's dramatic mezzo, a singer whose emotional force carried her from 1980s festival stages to two Eurovision appearances. She sang Željo moja for Yugoslavia in 1986 and returned for Croatia in 1999 with Marija Magdalena, still one of the country's best Eurovision results. Her Mediterranean ballads and torch songs remain fixtures of every Dalmatian songbook.
