About Pinoy Rock
Pinoy rock is one of Asia's deepest rock traditions, born when the Juan de la Cruz Band plugged Tagalog lyrics into heavy blues rock in the early 1970s and declared Ang Himig Natin, this is our music. It ran through 1980s new wave and exploded in the 1990s alternative boom led by the Eraserheads, often called the Beatles of the Philippines. Witty, melodic, and fiercely local, it remains the beating heart of the country's band scene.
