About Cumbia Colombiana
The foundational rhythm of Colombia's Caribbean coast, born from the meeting of African drumming, Indigenous gaita flutes, and Spanish melody. Orchestras led by Lucho Bermúdez and Pacho Galán brought it into the ballroom in the 1940s and 1950s, while folkloric singers like Totó la Momposina kept its drum-and-chant roots alive. Cumbia spread across the continent and became one of Latin America's most widely adopted forms.
