Rock español is Spanish-language rock that grew from the post-Movida scene into a stadium-filling force in the late 1980s and 1990s. It ranges from the gothic-tinged hard rock of Héroes del Silencio to the raw folk-rock of Extremoduro and the indie melancholy of Los Planetas. The scene gave Spain a rock identity distinct from its Latin American counterparts.
