The Kamkars

About The Kamkars

A family ensemble of seven brothers and a sister from Sanandaj in Iranian Kurdistan, and the best known Kurdish group in Iran. They perform Kurdish repertoire alongside Persian classical material, which put Kurdish music in front of audiences that had rarely heard it presented seriously. Several members are significant soloists in their own right, including Hossein Kamkar and Bijan Kamkar. They have toured widely and recorded for Kereshmeh.
