The most consequential short-lived band in pop history. Active for barely three years from 1975 to 1978, the Sex Pistols' Anarchy in the U.K. and Never Mind the Bollocks (1977) detonated British rock and forced the music industry to take punk's anti-commercial premise seriously. Their break-up at Winterland in San Francisco in January 1978 was as definitive as the founding.
