About Nautilus Pompilius

Nautilus Pompilius formed in Sverdlovsk in 1982 around singer and songwriter Vyacheslav Butusov and bassist Dmitry Umetsky. The band's 1986 album Razluka spread across the Soviet Union on copied tapes and made them one of the defining groups of late Soviet rock. Butusov's cool, literary lyrics and the band's new wave sound set them apart from the harder Leningrad and Moscow scenes. Songs such as Krylya and Gudbai, Amerika reached a new generation through Aleksei Balabanov's films Brat and Brat 2. Butusov dissolved the band in 1997.
