Mecano
About Mecano
Mecano was the most commercially successful Spanish pop group of all time, formed in Madrid in 1981 by the Cano brothers and singer Ana Torroja. Emerging from La Movida, they moved from bright synth-pop to lush, ambitious ballads. Songs like Hijo de la Luna and Mujer contra mujer became continental hits and pushed subjects rarely heard in mainstream pop. They disbanded in the 1990s but remain a defining sound of 1980s Spain.
