About Manuel Obregón

Manuel Obregón is a Costa Rican pianist, composer, and producer who has done as much as anyone living to shape the country's musical infrastructure. He founded the Papaya Music label that captured Walter Ferguson's calypso songbook on record, he was the pianist in Malpaís, and he served as Costa Rica's Minister of Culture from 2010 to 2014. His solo work moves between Latin American folk, classical, and improvised piano with collaborators from across the region.
