About Lord Kitchener
Calypso's greatest melodist, who sailed to Britain on the Windrush in 1948 and sang London Is the Place for Me on the quayside at Tilbury. He spent fifteen years in Britain making calypso a familiar sound there before returning to Trinidad in 1963. He won ten Road March titles and wrote the tunes the steelbands most wanted to play, including Pan in A Minor. Sugar Bum Bum remains the song most people can hum.
