About Kino

Kino was formed in Leningrad in 1981 around singer and songwriter Viktor Tsoi and grew out of the Leningrad Rock Club scene. Its terse lyrics and cool post-punk sound reached a mass audience with the 1988 album Gruppa krovi. Tsoi's star rose further through the films Assa and Igla, and in 1989 the band released Zvezda po imeni Solntse. Tsoi died in a car accident in Latvia in August 1990, aged 28. The surviving members completed Chorny albom from his demo vocals, released later that year, and the band then ended.
