About Joey Boy

Joey Boy, born Apisit Opasaimlikit in Bangkok, was the first Thai rapper to put hip-hop on national radio. Signed to Bakery Music in the mid-1990s, his debut album Joey Boy (1995) and follow-up Pak Ka Chui set the template for Thai-language rap. He spent the 2000s sliding between hip-hop, ska, and reggae, returned in the 2010s with the comedy single Galam Pli, and continues to record. A generation of Thai rappers from Joey to Daboyway cite him as the foundational reference for the country's hip-hop tradition.
