Enrique Morente

1942–2010

About Enrique Morente

Enrique Morente was a flamenco singer and restless innovator who bridged tradition and the avant-garde. He mastered classic cante before pushing into bold experiments, most famously on his 1996 album Omega, which set the poetry of Federico García Lorca and songs of Leonard Cohen to flamenco backed by a rock band. He mentored a new generation and remained a towering, respected figure until his death in 2010.
