About Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven stands at the hinge between the Classical and Romantic eras, the composer who expanded what music could express. Writing some of his greatest works while going deaf, including the Fifth and Ninth Symphonies, he transformed the symphony into a vehicle for human struggle and triumph. The Ode to Joy from his Ninth is now the anthem of Europe.
