Siberian Punk

Über Siberian Punk

Siberian punk was a lo-fi underground scene centred on Omsk and Novosibirsk in the mid-1980s. Yegor Letov's Grazhdanskaya Oborona recorded albums on home equipment and circulated them on copied tapes, far from the Moscow and Leningrad rock clubs. Its raw guitars and bleak, poetic lyrics, carried further by Yanka Dyagileva, made it one of the most influential underground movements of the late Soviet period.
