Gaita Zuliana
Über Gaita Zuliana
Gaita zuliana is the folk music of Maracaibo and Zulia state, driven by cuatro, tambora, furro friction drum, and charrasca scraper. Traditionally tied to the December festivities of La Chinita, it swings between joyous celebration and sharp social and political protest. Ricardo Aguirre made it a vehicle for popular grievance, and Guaco grew out of the gaita scene before evolving into a tropical fusion of its own.
