Prljavo kazalište formed in Zagreb's Dubrava district in 1977 and rode the novi val wave before growing into Croatia's biggest rock band. Their 1988 ballad Mojoj majci, universally known as Ruža hrvatska, became an unofficial anthem in the independence years, and their 1989 concert on Zagreb's main square drew one of the largest crowds in Croatian history. More than four decades on, they still headline arenas and release new material.
