Neneh Cherry is a Swedish-born singer and rapper with an international career, included here for her family connection to Sierra Leone: her biological father, Ahmadu Jah, was Sierra Leonean. She was born in Stockholm to the Swedish artist Moki Cherry and grew up with her stepfather, the American jazz trumpeter Don Cherry. She moved to London as a teenager, sang with Rip Rig + Panic, and broke through with Buffalo Stance in 1988 and the album Raw Like Sushi. Her later work includes 7 Seconds with Youssou N'Dour (1994) and the albums Blank Project (2014) and Broken Politics (2018).
