Alla Pugacheva is the best-selling star of Soviet and Russian estrada, with a career that began on radio in 1965. Her breakthrough came in 1975, when Arlekino won the Grand Prix at the Golden Orpheus festival in Bulgaria. Million alykh roz, released in 1982, set Andrei Voznesensky's Russian words to a melody Raimonds Pauls had first written for the Latvian song Dāvāja Māriņa. She was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1991 and kept releasing new songs into the 2020s. She moved abroad in 2022.
