About Elida Almeida

Elida Almeida is the leading voice of a new Cape Verdean generation, rooting contemporary songwriting in the funaná and batuku of Santiago. Raised in hardship on the island, she broke through with her 2015 debut Ora Doci Ora Margos and won the RFI Découvertes prize that year. Singing in Kriolu about resilience and everyday island life, she has become one of the most celebrated young artists in Lusophone Africa.
