Trinidadian spoken-word music that set rhythm and poetry against social commentary, named and shaped by Brother Resistance and the Network Riddum Band from the late 1970s. It draws on the chantwell tradition behind calypso rather than on American rap, though it arrived alongside it. The 1986 album Rapso Take Over is its clearest statement.
