About Bikutsi
Bikutsi is the fast, hard-hitting dance music of the Beti peoples of southern Cameroon, built on a driving six-beat pulse originally struck out on balafon. Electric bands such as Les Têtes Brûlées reworked it with distorted guitars in the 1980s and made it legible abroad as a kind of rock. Later singers including Lady Ponce turned it into a vocalist's music, blunt about sex, money and marriage.
