Born in Lisbon to Cape Verdean parents, Valete is Portuguese hip-hop's most politically conscious voice. His densely lyrical, confrontational style tackles racism, class, and Portuguese colonial legacy with an intellectual intensity rare in any genre. His album 'Serviço Publico' is considered a landmark of socially engaged hip-hop in Europe.
