Tang Dynasty are the heavy metal half of the early Beijing rock founders, formed in 1988 with Taiwanese-American guitarist Kaiser Kuo and frontman Ding Wu. Their 1992 debut album 夢回唐朝 wedded Maiden-style twin guitars to Chinese classical poetry and history. Bassist Zhang Ju died in a motorcycle accident in 1995 and the band continued through several lineup changes, but the debut remains the foundational record of Chinese hard rock.
