Sam the Kid is the godfather of Portuguese hip-hop. Starting in 1993, he built a reputation as both a lyricist and producer who elevated hip-hop tuga from underground to a respected art form. His album 'Sobre(tudo)' is widely considered the genre's masterpiece in Portugal.
