About Chicago House

House music takes its name from the Warehouse, the Chicago club where Frankie Knuckles was resident DJ from 1977. He and Ron Hardy at the Music Box blended disco, Philly soul, and Italo records with drum machines, and by 1984 local producers like Jesse Saunders, Marshall Jefferson, and Larry Heard were pressing the first house records on Trax and DJ International. Chicago's Black and gay dance floors gave the world the four-on-the-floor template that every dance genre since has built on.
