Slovenian Avant-Garde
About Slovenian Avant-Garde
The industrial, EBM, and conceptual-art end of Slovenian music. Laibach and Borghesia, both founding members of the Neue Slowenische Kunst collective, defined the form in the 1980s, weaponising totalitarian aesthetics and dance-floor electronics for political and queer ends. The lineage extends through Magnifico's Balkan-pop irony into the present, and it is the cultural reason a small country has a disproportionately large footprint in international art-music conversation.
