Nuevo Cancionero
About Nuevo Cancionero
Launched in 1963 in Mendoza as a manifesto-driven movement, Nuevo Cancionero sought to modernize Argentine folk music and connect it to social justice. Mercedes Sosa became its defining voice, carrying songs of resistance through the military dictatorship and into global consciousness. The movement placed Argentine folk at the center of Latin America's nueva canción wave.
