About Novi val
Novi val was the Croatian arm of the Yugoslav new wave, erupting out of Zagreb's clubs and the youth press around 1979. Bands like Azra, Haustor, and Film wrote sharp, poetic, street-level songs that treated socialist everyday life as material for art rock, reggae, and punk energy. It remains the most critically revered chapter of Croatian popular music, and its lyrics are quoted like literature.
