Norteño

About Norteño

Accordion-driven dance music from northern Mexico and the Texas border, built on polka and waltz rhythms brought by 19th-century German and Czech settlers. Norteño's signature instrumentation is the diatonic button accordion and the bajo sexto, and its narrative tradition runs through the corrido. Los Tigres del Norte made it the soundtrack of working-class Mexico on both sides of the border.
