About J-Rock
Japan's rock tradition built itself in the 1980s on Western blueprints (Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Queen) and then created its own visual-kei aesthetic with X Japan in the late 1980s. Through the 1990s and 2000s, B'z, L'Arc-en-Ciel, and Mr. Children sold tens of millions of records and made stadium rock a Japanese mainstream. The genre still anchors anime soundtracks for global audiences.
