Griot Fusion

About Griot Fusion

Senegal's modern crossover between griot oral tradition, kora-based acoustic music, and global folk, soul, and reggae. Touré Kunda took Casamance rhythms to Paris in the 1980s, Cheikh Lô bent mbalax through Cuban and rumba lenses in the 1990s, and Faada Freddy stripped it back to a cappella body-percussion gospel in the 2010s.
