Cumbia Mexicana

About Cumbia Mexicana

Mexican cumbia, descended from the Colombian original but reshaped in Mexico City and Monterrey from the 1960s onward. Cumbia sonidera built a sound-system culture in the capital, while cumbia rebajada slowed the beat for Monterrey dancefloors. Los Ángeles Azules popularised the polished Mexico City sound; La Sonora Santanera and Rigo Tovar carried the tradition for decades.
