Coupé-Décalé

About Coupé-Décalé

Coupé-décalé was invented around 2002 by Ivorian nightclub crews in Paris, led by Douk Saga and the Jet Set, while civil war unsettled home. The music borrows Congolese rhythmic drive and builds each release around a named dance and a shouted ad-lib vocabulary. It moved back to Abidjan within months and has been the country's dominant club sound ever since.
