About Bubi Pop

Authored popular song rooted in the Bubi music of Bioko island, carried largely by women. Hijas del Sol set Bubi-language vocals against Madrid pop production in the 1990s, and both members went on to solo careers. Nélida Karr later brought the katya, kottó and bonko rhythms she grew up with into a songwriter's frame with jazz and blues colouring.
