About Vinícius de Moraes

Vinícius de Moraes was a poet, diplomat, and songwriter who co-created bossa nova and wrote the lyrics to some of the most beloved songs in Brazilian history. His collaborations with Tom Jobim produced Garota de Ipanema and Chega de Saudade, the songs that launched the genre worldwide. In his later years he performed and recorded prolifically with Toquinho, and his warm, bohemian spirit made him one of the great figures of twentieth-century Brazilian culture.
