The Clean

About The Clean

Formed in Dunedin in 1978 by the brothers David and Hamish Kilgour with Robert Scott, the Clean made the records that launched Flying Nun and defined the Dunedin Sound. The 1981 single Tally Ho! was recorded for two hundred dollars and reached the New Zealand top twenty. Their loose, jangling, melody-first guitar pop became one of the most influential underground sounds of the 1980s and was directly cited by Pavement, Yo La Tengo, and Belle and Sebastian.
