About Tatsuro Yamashita
Tatsuro Yamashita is the architect of city pop, a Tokyo singer-songwriter who left the Sugar Babe in 1976 to pursue a solo career that mixed American AOR, soft funk, and Latin rhythm into a uniquely Japanese urban sound. Ride on Time (1980) is the genre's foundational record, and his 1983 ballad Christmas Eve has charted on the Japanese Oricon every December for more than thirty consecutive years.
