About Songhoy Blues

Bamako-based four-piece formed in 2012 by Songhai musicians displaced from northern Mali after MUJAO and Ansar Dine took Timbuktu and outlawed music. The band's debut Music in Exile (2015) was produced by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and made them international ambassadors for Mali's resistance to the music ban. Their 2017 album Résistance featured an Iggy Pop collaboration on the track Sahara.
