About Gioachino Rossini

Gioachino Rossini was the most popular opera composer of his age, a master of comic opera whose sparkling melodies and propulsive crescendos delighted audiences across Europe. His 1816 masterpiece The Barber of Seville remains one of the most performed operas in the world, and the galloping finale of his William Tell Overture is instantly recognizable far beyond the opera house. He retired from opera at the height of his fame, still in his thirties.
