Rophnan Nuri is the pioneer of Ethiopian electronic dance music, a producer and singer who fused house, EDM, and hip-hop with traditional Ethiopian scales and Amharic and Oromo lyrics. His concept albums and stadium-filling concerts made him one of the biggest stars of a new generation, proving homegrown electronic music could dominate the mainstream. He is widely credited with opening the door for Ethiopian urban and dance music in the 2010s and 2020s.
