Muzsikás
About Muzsikás
Muzsikás are the band that turned the Budapest táncház movement into an international touring outfit. Formed in 1973 around Mihály Sipos and Péter Éri, they spent the 1970s and 80s scouring Transylvanian and Moldavian villages for the source material Bartók and Kodály had once collected, and translated it onto stages from Carnegie Hall to WOMAD. The collaboration with Márta Sebestyén became the most internationally visible Hungarian folk export of the 20th century, and the band's interpretations of Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances remain reference recordings.
